One of my favourite parts of my makeup routine is lips. It’s one of the few aspects of my makeup that I’m not afraid to play around with. Reds, purples, berries, I even have a deep navy blue liquid lipstick hidden somewhere in my collection. As much as I love to experiment with bold colours on my lips, I’m also obsessed with finding the perfect neutral shade for every day. So, with that in mind, I’m going to round up my current top 5 everyday lippies!
- Tarte Cosmetics Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in “Festival” – £17, available here.
This lovely mauve-pink is one of my all time favourites. I purchased it last summer, and have regularly reached for it since. It’s the perfect shade to complement any cool toned eye look, whether it be a neutral, day time look, or an amped up smokey eye for a night out. It’s a quick drying, matte formula that is long lasting but doesn’t feel overly drying on the lips. The only down side is that the staying power isn’t enough to outlast a meal or too many drinks, so it does need to occasionally be touched up. However, despite this, I love this colour and I wear it at least twice a week.
2. Fenty Beauty “Gloss Bomb” Universal Lip Luminizer – £16, available here.
The absolute perfect everyday, sheer gloss. I’m not the biggest lover of lip gloss. I go through phases of loving it and despising it. But when Rihanna launched her beauty line, Fenty Beauty, I hopped right back on that train of loving lip gloss. The “Gloss Bomb” Universal Lip Luminizer is the most beautiful, sheer peachy-nude with some shimmer, that is flattering for every skin tone. It’s sheer enough that it doesn’t look heavy, yet gives the lips a tint of colour to make them look perfect. It’s non-sticky (who doesn’t hate super sticky glosses), and surprisingly long lasting for a lip gloss. Of course, you do have to regularly reapply, and it’s a little heavy feeling on the lips, but it’s perfect for someone who wants to look effortlessly glamourous.
3. Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in “Koko K” – $12.19 (single), available here.
This was one of my first forays into the world of liquid lipsticks and to this day it’s still one of my all time favourites. “Koko K” is a beautiful pale pink, which can easily be worn with both warmer and more cool toned makeup looks. It’s one of my favourites to throw on with a more smokey eye. Again, it’s a long-wearing matte formula, that doesn’t require much maintenance (a slight touch up might be needed after eating). It’s a little more drying than I’d like it to be, but it’s nothing that a little lip balm can’t fix. If you’ve never tried out a Kylie Cosmetics lip product, this is a pretty good place to start.
4. MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in “Angel” – £17.50, available here.
If you’re less into liquid and more into the more traditional, bullet lipstick, then this is my number 1 recommendation. It’s a beautiful nude pink, in a frost finish, that is loved by celebrities and us regular people alike. It’s my favourite lipstick shade from MAC, and one of the few lipsticks that I’ve purchased more than once. If I’m not feeling like wearing drying, liquid matte lipsticks, but want something with more coverage than a gloss, I reach for this lipstick. I’m not going to lie, I first bought this because I’d heard that Kim Kardashian loved this shade (and 17-year-old me was highly impressionable) but it turned out that this is my perfect “my lips but better” shade and it’s been a favourite ever since!
5. NYX Cosmetics Lip Lingerie in “Bedtime Flirt” – £7, available here.
I love NYX Cosmetics. I think they’re one of the best drugstore/inexpensive makeup brands and have all kinds of amazing products (their eyeshadows and brow products are some of my faves). I especially love their Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks, which are available a huge range of nude shades for every skin tone. My personal favourite is the shade “Bedtime Flirt”, which is my go-to lip colour for when I’m wearing a more warm toned eye. It’s a beautiful brown-toned nude, that works well with my extremely pale skin tone. These lipsticks are a very light-weight, matte formula that last a decent amount of time. Like the other liquid lipsticks that I’ve mentioned in this post, you will have to reapply after eating, but other than that it is one of my all-time favourites.
Every single one of these lip colours are ones that I regularly reach for, and I’ve tried to include a good variation between liquid lipsticks (which are my favourite, as you can probably tell) and more traditional lipsticks and glosses. They’re all beautiful shades that are likely to work on most skin tones. Give some of them a go! And let me know if any of these are your favourites to…or leave me your recommendations so that I can try out something new!
